How To Get Rid of Cellulite

Hey pretty girls!! This is SUCH an important post because we ALL struggle with cellulite eventually in our lives, it's inevitable to happen.

What IS cellulite? It's the lumpy bumps of skin caused when fat presses up against the vertical connective tissue that surrounds fat cells in our thighs AKA the dimpled effect.

What causes it? Genetics, hormones (estrogen), extra weight, smoking, stress, poor diet, high alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, etc. Some of those factors are out of your control, but MOST aren't! MEANING: you can get rid of MOST of your cellulite! Say it with me "YAY!!!"

1. Eat healthy! Eat plenty of fiber, fruits, vegetables & whole grains, this will help to remove waste and toxins from the intestinal tract! In addition to that, eat lean proteins as your main muscle and energy building source (the more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism is... the faster your metabolism is, the less body fat --> the less cellulite!)

2. Drink PLENTY of water! Increase your daily water intake - this will help shed excess fat including the fat that's stored as cellulite! In addition to that, water strengthens you the collagen in skin which will help to reduce the lumpy look and keep you looking younger! Less wrinkles & no cellulite? YES please! :))))

3. Exercise regularly! Cellulite is fat, bottom line. It's important to do both cardio and strength training a few times per week to keep your metabolism revved up! I recommend High Intensity Interval Training, also known as HIIT along with your cardio and strength training. HIIT is a MAJOR fat blaster! PS. TurboFire has 3 HIIT workouts in it & they're sooo fun!

4. Use an exfoliator! Use an exfoliator scrub with some sort of caffeine ingredient in it. Caffiene is supposed to break up fatty deposits as you massage it into your skin. In ADDITION to that, it also tightens, hydrates, and plumps your skin!

5 Daily Activities For A Happy Life

As most of you know, being happy is much more than just deciding to smile and BEING a happy a person (although that DOES play a big role)

Being happy requires mental, physical and emotional steps in the right direction to actually LIVE a healthy life.

1. Read more books
I know reading isn't exactly "popular" these days, but do it! Whether you're reading fiction, personal development, science, autobiographies etc. It doesn't matter exactly what you read, but studies say that reading for 10 minutes a day relaxes your mind and sharpens it at the same time. PLUS, it's proven that reading more makes you a better write & speaker! yayyyy

2. Workout

Sharpening the saw of the body is SO important. Working out keeps you more alert throughout the day, not to mention all of the health benefits of it. Doctors say that it actually increases your productivity by 30%. A one hour workout is 4% of your day, meaning you get an net increase of 26% time and productivity .So when people ask "How do you have time to workout?!" as Zig Ziglar says "I don't have time NOT to workout"

3. Pray or Meditiate

Now depending on what religion you believe in - you should pray, meditate, or visualize EVERY day! Connecting with your God or higher power is so helpful when dealing with the daily stress of life. Knowing we have a source other than ourself who's looking out for us and has a "big picture" plan helps us stay sane when dealing with pesky difficulties that cross our paths.

4. Drink Water

Did you know that when you're stressed your body actually burns up the water inside of you? Probably not. I didn't know that either until my old yoga teacher taught me about that! So, even when our day to day life isn't making us rip our hair out, we're still navigating daily choices, decisions, and busy thoughts throughout the day that use up our water stores. Imagine being EXTRA stressed on top of that -- it happens to all of us!! Drink up ladies! PS. Next time you feel really stressed out, sick, or overwhelmed, chug a glass of water. I promise it'll make you feel a bit better right away :)

5. Speak positively

We all know that "Thoughts becomes things" and "What you think about, you bring about" and "Whether you think you can, or think you can't - either way you are right"
Basically what I'm trying to say here is - you can't live a positive life if you're living negative thoughts! "Perception is reality.." Seriously I could go on and on about the important of positive thinking. This will CHANGE your life! Tomorrow morning when you wake up, tell yourself this "I am going to have a great day, thank you for the freedom to choose how my day goes and for blessing me with another day of opportunity! I am a genius and I apply my wisdom. I am happy, healthy, and wealthy and I positively impact the lives of those around me." Try it! See how you feel & how you day goes!

The Best Fitness Advice You'll Ever Get

Hey dolls! Today I wanted to share some tips & tricks in order to get your fitness on track, and of course I consider these to be the BEST tips & tricks out there!!!

THE #1 most IMPORTANT thing you need to know!
The biggest thing holding you back from reaching your goals is...

EXCUSES!

I know thats rough to hear but it's the truth. How many times have you said any of these to yourself?
  • I don't have time
  • I'm too tired
  • I don't want to wash my hair
  • I won't see results anyways
  • I'll gain it back
  • I'm too stressed
  • I don't have the willpower to stick with it

Well, the truth is all of those are just EXCUSES to talk yourself out of making the changes you need to make in order to accomplish your goals!

So, the first step to success is to drop your excuses and decide that your dreams are MORE important!!

Follow these steps to get on your way!
  1. Drop your excuses (decide your dreams are worth more)
  2. Get support (you can join my Fitness Doll Challenge! :) )
  3. Make a plan (get a workout program)
  4. Plan ahead (make food ahead of time)
  5. Chart your progress (you can use jars and marbles to track lbs lost & lbs to lose)
  6. Track your Food (I love myfitnesspal for this!)
  7. Work on your inside as much as your outside (Personal Development books!!)

How to Get a BEAUTIFUL Tan at Home

Hey ladies!! As most of you know I'm pretty white. And when I say that, I mean - WHITE. I'm Canadian and for some reason my sister, Rebecca, got all of the "tanable" genes in our family. When I go outside for the day, or to the beach... I don't tan I BURN! It's unfortunate but I've learned to protect my skin with sunscreen and have started to appreciate my white-girl-ness at times. HOWEVER, I LOVE to be tanned! Spray tans, self tanning lotion, instant bronzers, anything that'll give my skin a glow - I gotta have it! Since I've been experimenting with self-tanners and ways to get bronzed without a sun since grade 8 (yes grade 8, I was orange at times LOL) I have a TON of tips, tricks, and products that'll give you an amazing color!

If you're interested in self tanning at home, you must know by now the important of exfoliating! And it's true. Not in the sense that you need to get every cell off your body, but you DO need to exfoliate so that areas like your elbows, knees, and hair line absorb nicely. I have an exfoliating mitt from Target that works wonders for me. Whether I'm exfoliating pre-tan or post-tan, it gets the job done right! You should use either an exfoliating mitt, a wash cloth, or a body/sugar scrub. Scrub those elbows!!

After you exfoliate make sure you put lotion on your elbows & knees. Your elbows and knees absorb  self tanner MUCH more than the rest of your skin so you want to hydrate those areas a bit creating a small barrier.

My REGULAR lotion

My absolute FAVORITE non-self-tan lotion is Kisses by Australian Gold. I get it from amazon because it's the least expensive there hehe. This is after 4 days of consecutively applying my secret weapon self tanner. :)

After putting regular lotion on your elbows and knees, lotion up your hands as well. NEXT - apply the self tanner! Don't worry about a certina technique or motion of your hands, as long as you apply it evenly you can work in whatever routine feels best for you.

This part is SUPER important, and most of us overlook it! I know I used to... wait before getting dressed! I used to get dressed after 5 minutes and tell myself "Okay, there's no way my clothes can move around the lotion! It's on my skin already!" Haha, learn from my mistakes! Wait at least 15 minutes before getting dressed and just listen to an audiobook, pain your nails, ect.

Once you've gotten dressed - VOILA! You're done the first application yayyyy!

After this, the next day you'll want to repeat the steps MINUS the first one - don't exfoliate after you've put on the self tanner!

So in review:

1. Exfoliate

2. Use lotion on your driest skin areas (elbows, knees, hands etc.)
3. Apply Self Tanner
4. Wait 15 minutes before getting dressed

Make sure you use regular lotion everyday as well as using your self tanner, I like to self-tan in the mornings & before bed I use my Kisses lotion to prevent the tan from fading.

OKAY, I know you're wondering what self tanner I actually use and my bad boy is the *St. Tropez Gradual Tan*

I've tried the St. Tropez mousse, and while it DID make me super dark, it stained a lot of my clothes  and didn't last long. :( But I can honestly say the gradual tan is my baby! It's so moisturizing and the color is gorgeous, fades evenly, and doesn't smell bad! I actually love the smell and look forward to it since it's makes me feel "fresh" haha. Try it out!

These are some other self tanners that I've tried and would HIGHLY recommend for anyone wanting to pick up a self tanner at Target, Walmart etc.

1. Banana Boat Sunless Tanning Lotion in Dark (Medium isn't enough color even for me, so try the dark!)

2. Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer in Medium/Dark
3. Nivea Sun-Kissed Radiance Gradual Tanner & Body Lotion in Medium to Dark skin
4. Sally Hansen Airbrush Leg Makeup in Light (This is NOT a self tanner but I use this from time to time and LOVE IT! Just don't wear white)
5. L'Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze Pearl Tinted Lotion in Medium Natural Tan

Those are some GREAT lotions that I always keep in stock in my bathroom! I don't use all of them on a regular basis anymore but I can always rely on them when I'm out. I've tried a lot of others and these ones I promise you will love!

I'm sure there are some others out there that are JUST as good as my list so if you have a favorite comment and let me know! I love trying new babies.

How to Bleach Hair at Home

Good morning ladies!! I want to share with you the secret to something I get asked ALL the time... it doesn't matter where I go, at least 3-5 times a week I get asked
"I love your hair! Where do you get it done?!"
And people are always surprised to hear me say
"Oh, I do it myself!"
And yes... I TRULY do it myself! I did some EXTENSIVE research, watched youtube after youtube tutorial, went to Sally's, and dyed it for the first time myself last January (2013). I have to admit, I was REALLY scared. I just couldn't keep up with the cost of seeing a hairdresser every month to maintain my roots! SO - I got a little creative, and it paid off big time! I've been doing my own hair for a year and a half and I do my roots every 2-3 weeks.

I KNOW that's a lot, but I LOVE the appearance of fresh roots - and since it's inexpensive & I can do it when it's convenient for me, it works out well! My hair is naturally dark blonde, but I've always LOVED the platinum blonde/playboy bunny blonde. This will work on dark or light hair. If your hair is dark brown, you will need to do this twice to get it to the blonde you want, but only do it once per day!

I wanted to give you a step by step of how I do it so that hopefully some aspiring blondes out there can do this on a low budget! ;) The cost is about $40 to get everything you need the first time. Those goodies will last you at least 8 months though - BIG money saver!

The supplies you need are:

30 OR 40 Volume Developer
(30 vol. if your hair is naturally dark blonde to light brown,
40 vol. if your hair is darker than that)
Wella Bleach Powder
Mixing Bowl
Applicator Brush

You want to mix the bleach powder with the developer in your mixing bowl with a 2:1 ratio. Don't get confused, this is easy trust me! One scoop of bleach powder (usually 30g) then pour in 60g of developer (until the level reaches 90g)
Does that make sense? It needs to be at 90g because you already added 30g of the powder :)

Mix it with the brush until it becomes a nice creamy consistency.

If your just doing your roots, start at the bottom of your head and work your way up.
If you're dying your whole head of hair, start at the base of your hair, and apply it to your ends last. Try to work quickly! If you used 30 vol. developer - leave it on your hair/roots for 25 minutes. If you used 40 vol. developer - leave it on your hair for 30 minutes.

After your timer has finished - rinse the bleach out, wash your hair with a PURPLE shampoo and deep condition your hair! My secret weapon is Aveda Damage Remedy. It smells amazing and on top of that it will work WONDERS on your hair!

I thought about going into GREAT detail about how to do this, and how to make sure every single thing was EXACTLY like this person or that person -BUT- what I've learnt is that there are SO many small varieties out there when it comes to doing your own hair. When I was doing my research I WISH someone had just made a plain, simple and straightforward post. That was my goal for this! It really is as simple as it sounds. Don't be afraid!

Goodluck ladies!!!!
